Honestly, I could make a real case for any of the 6 classes in Mass Effect 2 as being the best, but after playing as all 6 of them my clear favorite is the Infiltrator. Soldier is probably a good balance between power and learning curve and is a good choice.
He is a little easier to get into on Insanity, but his skillset makes him best vs bosses and he lags in cc and capability to grind though hordes of basics, especially early game and without the proper bonus power. Infiltrator is on the other end of the spectrum. It doesn't have the learning curve that Vanguard has, but still dishes out decent damage. Sentinel with Stasis as a bonus is probably one of the easier classes to play overall, and is also very powerful. Vanguard is near the top in power (basically the best vs basics to mid tier and worse against bosses), but takes more to master and also can be difficult early game when you don't have many talent points or upgrades. In Mass Effect 2 the classes are balanced fairly well as far as actual power goes, although they have different learning curves and ease of use is not the same. Vanguard also gets a couple of the best biotics, plus good weapon training (Pistols and Shotguns), and Adrenaline Rush to reset cooldowns on powers. You get the most powerful biotic ability, the biotic semi-tanking ability (Barrier) and can take Singularity as the bonus (if you played Adept already), plus tech and medicine (Neural Shock). Or take Hacking on the Infiltrator and you are a more powerful combat engineer. just take a weapon bonus and you will only be short 1 gun compared to the Soldier.
Soldier is the best at tanking with heavy armor and immunity, but you can get most of the tanking, some tech powers, and better sniper rifle handling with the Infiltrator. ME1 also has a quirk in that probably most of the hybrid classes are a little better than the pure classes, at least in my opinion. Like an order of magnitude in some cases.
In that case whatever class you use at level 50+ for NG+ is substantially easier than a new character. It greatly, greatly depends on the circumstance.įor instance, in ME1 you need to unlock Hardcore and then Insanity, so you already have a character.
